I’m Jeremy Camp. Senior Systems/Cloud Engineer and veteran of the US Air Force.
I got starting in computing at an early age. My grandfather managed mainframes for General Electric which proctered NASA telemetry calculations during the space race. He always drove my interest in computing. There was always been a fire burning inside me to learn about everything around me, especially technology.
My mother promised to get me started with college tuition after graduating high school in 2006. Being heavy into art at the time I desired the pursuit of an art degree for 3D animation at the Art Institute of Atlanta. Seeing the dollar signs rack up while talking with the counselor, I revoked my Mom’s money and instead opted to enlist in the US Air Force instead, which was the best decision I could have ever made. I figured I’d use the G.I bill when I was ready, although I never used it outside of some I.T. cert courses.
Now a senior in my field, I think back to why I’m here. It boils down to operating my homelab. I hosting all my own services myself, outside the prying eyes of tech companies that are eager to sell my data to the highest bidder. This is not out of necessity, but purely becuase I enjoy it. This all hearkens back to my grandfather always declaring, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”.
